# 853 14:51, Feb 05, Jenny White, Australia Child abuse is an insidious and persistent blight on humanity throughout the world. The effects on survivors last a lifetime. Some children do not survive. The monument, placed prominently, will not only show Canadians' concern over this chronic social shame, but will also foster an international awareness of the plight of children - the ones who do not have the power to speak up or fight back against their abusers.

# 802 21:46, Feb 03, Denise Lechmere, Australia So much abuse is hidden. A visible monument would give form and meaning to the movement to identify and address this problem which affects so many of us in ways that we can't even begin to understand. Thank you for your work, commitment and efforts.

# 651 03:27, Jan 24, Nicole McNally, Australia This monument (and any others like it) show an acknowledgement of the abuse that takes place. Abuse should not be a secret and it should not have to be hidden away from society. We need to make a stand and show abusers that we will not sit idly by and ignore what is happening around us.
# 648 22:29, Jan 23, patrick hallenan, Australia i dont really know much about child abuse comming from a loving family, but i just experienced my first eppisode of bullying in the workplace, which is abuse, and it was only over a three month period, the feelings are horendous, so for a child, i cant even imagine how they would be able to cope, so yeh, hope and healing, the monument, to the sucess of both, and reaching out to those still traveling that pathway.

This monument is integral piece of art and therapy to help survivors heal and educate people about sexual abuse and the residual affects. Please, please, support this cause to bring attention to a subject that has faced shame, stereotypes, stigmas, and ignorance for so many years. If one if four has a mental health disease--how many have been sexually abuse? Look around the room and look inside of yourself.

# 381 14:30, Jan 09, Trish Reid (formerly Greena), Canada My 16 year old daughter is a survivour of 13 years of sexual abuse at the hand of her own father (of which I just found out about in June 2010). He is presently serving 6 years Fed Time. We are attempting to put the pieces of our lives back together again. These stories MUST be told, and abusers held ACCOUNTABLE. For too long, the VICTIM has held the shame. It is time to put the SHAME where it belongs - on the ABUSER. Say it LOUD, say it PROUD - "I am a SURVIVOUR!!!" Peace and Blessings from the Reid Family <3

No one listened then, it is essential that we listen now. We need to honour their courage and let each survivor, be they child or adult, know that there are people who hear and believe them and will continue to add their voices to those who have spoken. We have a responsibility to those survivors, young or grown up, to stop the betrayal of our most helpless and vulnerable. This is a responsibilty we all need to share.

# 793 04:09, Feb 03, Mayke Kranenbarg, Netherlands Please give this monument a prominent place. The hurt of child abuse is often an invisible darkness that can linger on very long in a person's life. This monument is a beautiful expression of acknowledgement of this hurt and encouragement to bring it out into the open, with the hope of healing it. For some it could be a place to sit by quietly and find solace, for others it could be an encouragement to help a child or adult in need. For everyone it is an important reminder to open our hearts for those in need.

# 833 23:49, Feb 04, Nina Larisch-Haider, New Zealand For me the monument would be a sign that we are willing to talk openly about child abuse and that we truly want to bring more awareness about the suffering of children and that we want to face this problem and are looking for solutions ........ and at the same time that it is possible to survive such a traume.

We have a lot of advertising going on on the tv to alert the abused to say' enough is enough' and the the abuser should get the message 'violence is not okay'. A monument would be good for all who don't read or have a tv.

Witness to the bravery of the survivors, who went back into hell, to help their fellows, when the authorites did nothing.Salute to them, those that died and those alive.
# 787 13:49, Feb 02, AWOL M I A MoonWalk Again, United Kingdom Animals have NO United Nations International Animal Rights or hardly any rights for animal welfares at all. Animals are viewed as less valuable as property...less than rubbish. Did you all know that humans have taken thousands upon thousands of years to bring about the United Nations Human Rights: we have 30 human rights? It probably took them that long because, they were fighting against this. Who? The abusers who wish to profit from their pound of flesh and blood, in every sense of the meanings, they have NO concerns for the consequences of their actions.children, women, the voiceless, should be protected and remembered.

# 399 03:45, Jan 10, Claire Allen, United Kingdom Definitely a petition to sign. Child abuse adn sexual abuse is an awful thing and can take years if ever to recover from. It ruyinsand takes lives it changes lives and not for the better. Where happiness should be in struggle hardship and isolation. Struggles for money and to have even the appearance of a somewhat normal life where unfortunately underneath it is not. It takes your health too which is very hard to come back from. A terible thing and unfortunately there is so much shame around it that most of probably remains hidden for a lifetime with just the effects showing.

But for now Canada is a start. I have sadly suffered from abuse and the difficulties of getting the right help. I fully support what Dr. Irving and survivors are doing with creating a Child Abuse Monument. Though I may never see it, it is important to me and many many others around the world NOT just Canada that this is done. The monument will be there for those who can not speak, or who fear doing so. The Government giving the monument a home with send a social message of "WE HEAR", and the monument will give something that most of us have always been missing: RECOGNITION."John Harrison. # 706 14:59, Jan 26, Jen Kae, CA Child abuse has been swept under the carpet long enough. It is time to create a public reminder of the atrocities against children, and to mobilize against them. Further, victory over a trauma is to be celebrated. Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it. This monument needs a permanent place of honor, just like the victims of these atrocities need an anchor for their lives.

# 533 17:57, Jan 17, Mark Richardson, CO As a survivor of repeated childhood physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, official recognition of this issue and its many victims would mean a lot to me. In my teens & 20s, I was holding a terrible secret, living a withdrawn and addicted lifestyle, convinced that I wouldn’t be believed, that I would be ridiculed, or that I would be blamed. I was filled with negative shame and had no self-esteem or self-confidence among my other issues. At that age I knew nothing of child abuse issues or any recovery programs and I strongly feel that such a public monument would be one way of reaching many young people who are still struggling alone with these issues daily.
# 529 16:09, Jan 17, Manny Santos, CO
# 528 15:24, Jan 17, Lucy Aponte, NY As a survivor of child abuse, I am moved to tears to know there may be a monument to survivors and victims of child abuse. Everyday, child victims are tortured, brutalized and even killed. Like holocaust survivors, the plight of children will finally be acknowledged with a monument. It will serve as a reminder to all of the reality of child abuse. It's time we acknowledge the fact. Child abuse exists. Until we acknowledge it, we won't eradicate it. Put up this monument.

It also holds a special place in my heart for the children that are as fortunate as I to have survived child abuse; so that they will not be forgotten. Thank You for everything that you are doing. I will post this on my face and attempt to help you get more signatures. This is a wonderful thing!

# 168 21:18, Dec 15, Suzanne Arena, RI As a victim, survivor and child advocate I know that the parrells of this momument are equal to those of the Holocost, Veteran's Memorial etc. and the importance is giving people and families the ability to mourn and vent and then heal. To address something they have never faced. My friend that has never been a victim was deeply moved when I showed her this and she started to cry, but she did it for the victims because the emotion became real. I thank you for this amazing work.

# 043 19:00, Nov 27, Shimon Cohen, IL The monument will publicize and hopefully bring out into the open, the horrors innocent little children endure, at home, in school, or in social settings. Perhaps this publicity will reduce the abuse and with it, the number of suicides plaguing the age group of 11-28.
# 042 15:02, Nov 27, John Thompson, NY The concept of child abuse did not exist until 1962 when Dr C. Henry Kempe referred to 'the battered child syndrome'. Today the public may be against child abuse but they don't want to talk about it. They are most comfortable when child abuse is a vague concept that happens to children they will never know or see and grow angry when confronted with abuse invovling people they know. But their anger is against having to deal with abuse. They want to be left in ignorance. So, too, is the public attitude about adult survivors of child abuse. The public prefers to keep survivors out of awareness. It is important for survivors to acknowledge we exist.
