I welcome commissions for furniture and design accents for home or office. These works are approached as art or to be part of a private or corporate collection and as such are priced accordingly.

During the height of the 1970's and 1980's “Crafts Movement”, in addition to boxes and furniture, I designed and produced hundreds of carved clocks and mirrors to market at more than two hundred arts and crafts shows in Canada and the US.

Carved Doors
I produced carvings in a variety of styles for my own furniture and for other designers and furniture makers. The furniture carvings were executed in a number of woods, though many of the carvings were on pine, oak and basswood due to my client base of David Hannivan Designs, Heritage Design, and other Canadiana furniture makers.

Bass wood provides a stable medium for a thick faux finish that is often mistaken for a stone. At an international jurried carving exhibition this piece won an award for painted finishes on wood carvings.

In the mid-1980s spent an evening through to the morning light talking with a native elder about shows, business, carving, wood, stone and the spirit and lessons found in the material one is working with. I left our encounter and began carving stone as he had suggested.

The lessons and wisdom taught to me by the stone was profound. It required a 560 page masters thesis and a nearly 1000 page doctoral thesis, the publication of journal articles and lectures at several dozen seminars and conferences to share the spirit and path to meaning that I found in the journey into myself through cultural expression via connection with stone.
