In the mid-1980s spent an evening through
to the morning light talking with a native elder about shows,
business, carving, wood, stone and the spirit and lessons
found in the material one is working with. I left our encounter
and began carving stone as he had suggested.
The lessons and wisdom taught to me by
the stone was profound. It required a 560 page masters thesis
and a nearly 1000 page doctoral thesis, the publication of
journal articles and lectures at several dozen seminars and
conferences to share the spirit and path to meaning that I
found in the journey into myself through cultural expression
via connection with stone.
